We learn about our community and many community helpers. In class, students will learn through exploration with different items in our messy table. Kindergarten visits the Missouri Department of Consesrvation after learning about the five senses. We will learn and memorize many prayers during the year. We begin by learning the Hail Mary prayer and learning about God’s many gifts to the world. Handwriting- Zaner Blosser style of handwriting is taught in kindergarten. Later in the year, students will have beginning readers to read to parents. The book lists are sent home beginning in October. Therefore, books read by parents are counted for the monthly book lists. Reading to your child every night is a very valuable way to get children interested in reading. During October, students begin keeping a journal for each month. This reading series includes worksheets and student readers. This program presents information incrementally (in small, easily understandable lessons) and reviews them daily. Kindergarten students participate in an intense, systematic phonics program. Care is taken to ensure that students are challenged and yet comfortable in their math placements. Students at Cathedral have the opportunity to move through the math curriculum at their own pace, and many will complete courses in high school level Algebra 1 and 2 prior to graduation. This allows for differentiated instruction for all students. As each student enters grade 3, he/she, using placement test scores, previous teacher's input, is placed in the appropriate math level. Using Saxon Math throughout all grade levels, students in grades K-2 experience instruction in fundamental concepts. Much of kindergarten math is through a hands-on approach.Ĭathedral School's math program is distinctive in both its format and scope. Saxon Math Books for Grades 4 to 12 Saxon Math is incremental, each concept is introduced and then reviewed all the way through the text. Check each grade level book on this website for placement tests, samplers and scope and sequence. Saxon's elementary classroom program has been adapted specifically for homeschoolers. Each teacher's manual contains a lesson-by-lesson list of all necessary materials. Manipulatives are an essential element of the K to 3 program. Saxon Math for Grades K to 3 Each kit from Grade 1 to 3 includes a scripted teacher’s manual, two student workbooks (WB) and a meeting book. Saxon's continual and incremental practice provides the child with the opportunity to learn and remember the foundational skills and concepts of mathematics. Brenda used it with great success with her own 3 children and homeschool families have told us over and over again how much they love Saxon Math.
